Elie Kligman from Las Vegas, Nevada made international news in 2021 as a college and professional prospect who chose to honor and keep the Jewish sabbath and holidays by not playing baseball.  In July 2021, history was made when Elie was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 20th round.  Elie decided to forego the professional opportunity, choosing instead to enroll at Wake Forest University.  When he went up to the plate for the first time on March 4, 2022, he became the first ever sabbath observant religious Jewish baseball player in NCAA Division I history! Elie played his sophomore year at Fullerton Junior College as the starting catcher and anchored the team to the quarterfinals of the California Junior College State Championship. Elie received a full baseball scholarship to Division I Sacramento State for his upcoming junior year in 2024.
